Getting started
How do I master a song?
Drag a song onto the Shoreline window, or choose File › Open. Shoreline listens to the whole song for a few seconds, then press Play (or Space) to hear the master. When you're happy, choose Export Master (⌘E).
How do I master a podcast or voice recording?
Open the recording, then switch the toolbar to Voice. Pick the preset that fits (Podcast, Interview, Audiobook, Voiceover or Video Call) from the menu next to it.
How do I compare with the original?
Use the Original / Mastered switch above the light view, or press C. Both play at the same loudness, so you hear what changed rather than what got louder.
How do I hear a different part of the song?
Drag the highlighted loop in the waveform at the bottom, or drag its edges to make it longer or shorter. Click anywhere in the waveform to jump there.
Shaping the sound
How do I add my own EQ?
Select EQ, then double-click the graph to add a band and drag it. Or choose Draw and paint the curve you want (hold ⌥ to erase).
How do I go back to the automatic setting?
Double-click any slider or band, or press Reset at the top of a module. Everything can be undone with ⌘Z.
Can I turn the vocals up or down?
Yes. In General mode, select Vocals and move the level. Small moves sound the most natural.
It's not getting as loud as I asked.
Shoreline stops before the sound would get squashed and tells you how loud it can go. Try a little more Character or Soft clip in the Maximizer, or a gentler EQ in the lows.
Purchase
What's free, and what do I pay for?
Everything in Shoreline is free to use: mastering, both modes, every module and comparing with the original. A one-time purchase unlocks Export Master, so you can save finished files. There's no subscription.
I bought Export but it's locked on another Mac.
Choose Export Master… (⌘E), then Restore Purchase on the sheet that appears. Make sure the Mac is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with.
Files
Which files can I open?
WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, AAC/M4A, ALAC and CAF, and the audio from most video files.
What does Export Master save?
A 24-bit WAV at the original sample rate, ready for any streaming service, distributor or podcast host.
Long recordings
Recordings of an hour or more work fine but use more memory. If your Mac has 8 GB of memory, close other apps before working on very long files.
Requirements
macOS 15 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon or Intel.
